Stepover Pear Trees

The popularity of the stepover pear tree has risen enormously during the last few years.

Stepover trees are very novel – and very small – Pear trees. Infact a stepover pear tree is the very smallest tree you can plant. With an established height of just 18″ and a spread of perhaps 120-150cm’s for one stepover tree, they are very easily accomodated. Traditionally stepover pear trees – and other stepover trees as well – are used as a low decorative edging to a path or border, or to edge a kitchen garden, allotment or veg patch.

Because of their very small stature, stepover apple trees should not be viewed as a highly productive option – but they are very decorative and the fruits that are produced are quite large, infact often larger than on big full grown pear trees!

Stepover fruit trees are grown only on the very smallest stocks available; this makes them easier to maintain.

A stepover Pear tree has just two laterals trained flat either side of one main stem forming a tree in the shape of a capital ‘T’.

These stepover trees can also be used against very low walls where there is not the height for a fan or espalier tree.

Stepover Pear trees are grown in limited quantities only and demand often exceeds supply especially late in the season.
